Kierra Elizabeth Hudson

Thirteen years ago today our second child was born. We were sure she was going to be a boy because no girl could be so mean to put her mom what Amy went through with her. We didn't really care what sex the baby would be, so long as it didn't have red hair. When she was born she didn't have red hair, but she did have an orange glow all over the top of her head. We were so sure she would be a boy we didn't even have a name picked out. She came home before we picked the perfect name for her. Although we initially thought we didn't want a child with red hair, we have always been grateful for the beautiful red hair Kierra was born with.
Here is my favorite pic of her when she was young.
Kierra loves to read and has read the entire Harry Potter series at least 10 times. If you give her a book she will read almost non-stop until it is finished. She is the one child we have that we have to force her to go out and play. She also likes to play video games. She is by far more like me than her mother. We are both extremely bull-headed and can be difficult to deal with.
She is an extremely smart and beautiful young lady. When she started at the intermediate school last year she was struggling with math because she didn't like it or understand it. We explained that it didn't matter if she liked it, she had the ability to be great at it and we wouldn't accept her not trying her best. From that moment on she has excelled at math and it has become one of her best subjects in school. It is that ability to conquer new things that constantly amazes me.
Kierra is very shy and even though she served on student council in 5th grade, she has since begun to shy away from the spotlight. For this reason she will be very upset that she gets to spotlighted today. She has always been her own person and hasn't much cared what others think. As a father I'm so grateful for that character trait and I hope she continues to think for herself in her coming teenage years.
I am grateful that Heavenly Father blessed our family with a gorgeous red-headed sweetheart and I hope she has an amazing birthday.
